In this episode, three key things that are highlighted about Jim:
- He is even lazier than we thought
- He continues to distain his job
- He loves bullying Dwight
1. LAZY
Jim admits that he is very lazy on camera, he says that any time Michael asks him to do "anything", he refuses and tells Michael that Dwight should do it. And we see an example this episode, Michael tells Jim that he has to decide on a health care plan and Jim refuses to do it (knowing that Dwight would likely cut the benefits), and gets Michael to order Dwight to do it instead.
2. DISTAIN
Jim clearly distains his job, so much so that he claims that if he were to get a promotion, that would mean his job is a "career", and he would "throw [him]self in front of a train". Later on in the series we see Jim interview for, and take, promotions in the office.
3. DWIGHT
Jim is too busy bullying Dwight to deal with real issues that will impact everyone in the office. When Jim and Pam go to complain to Dwight about the proposed health care plan, Jim starts wasting time by discussing whether the conference room is acting as an "office" or a "workspace" for Dwight, and Pam eventually has to get Jim back on track. Additionally he encourages Pam to make up false diseases (which he also does himself) which causes delays in any changes to improving the poor health care plan. He additionally locks Dwight in the conference room, which also causes delays, and prevents any changes being made to the plan.
ADDITIONALLY
We see Jim trying to see what diseases Pam is filling out in her form. Is this so that he can use these against her later to drive a wedge between her and Roy?
